UFC champion Julianna Peña Once Fought a Male Coworker in a Back Alley – and Learned a Harsh Lesson
On the OverDogs Podcast, UFC champ Julianna Peña shared a wild story from her early fighting days. While working as a food expediter with a 3-0 UFC record, Peña got into a heated workplace rivalry with a male line cook. It escalated into a full-on street fight behind the restaurant.
“He dropped me three times,” Peña admitted. “I popped back up every time, but ended up with a swollen eye shut for three days and 11 stitches.”
The fight taught her a brutal truth: “I don’t want anything to do with fighting dudes for real. I’ve learned my lesson.”
Despite both being involved, only Peña was fired— due to her status as a professional fighter.
Now a UFC world champion, Peña says the incident was a painful reminder of the biological differences in combat—but also a testament to her resilience.
